A Human Design chart is calculated from the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at two moments, not one: your exact birth, and a point roughly eighty-eight days before it. We have built a free Human Design chart calculator that runs both, gives you your type, authority, profile and defined centres, and stores nothing. This issue is how it works and why we made it.

What follows is the mechanism, the honest limits, and the piece on the cover.

What a chart actually is

A Human Design chart is an astronomical calculation wearing a diagram. Underneath the bodygraph, the coloured centres and the numbered gates, the whole thing reduces to one question: where were the Sun, the Moon and the planets when you arrived, and where were they some weeks before that.

Everything else in the system is a lookup. Those planetary positions are mapped onto sixty-four gates, borrowed from the I Ching. The gates connect into channels. The channels light up centres. The lit centres decide your type, and your type decides your strategy. It is a chain of rules, and the only genuine input is your birth data.

Which is why a calculator is not a small part of this. It is the whole front door.

The two dates in every chart

This is the part almost nobody explains, and it is the most interesting thing in the system.

Every chart is calculated twice. The first calculation uses the moment you were born, and it produces what the system calls the Personality, the conscious half, printed in black. The second calculation uses a point about eighty-eight days earlier, and it produces the Design, the unconscious half, printed in red.

That second date is not chosen loosely. The system defines it as the moment the Sun sat eighty-eight degrees of solar arc before its position at your birth, which happens to land roughly eighty-eight days earlier. The claim attached to it is that this is the body's half, the part that was already running before you had any say in it.

You do not have to believe the claim to notice that it makes the calculation twice as demanding. A calculator that only reads your birth moment is not producing a Human Design chart at all.

How ours calculates it

We wanted three things: real ephemeris accuracy, no account, and no copy of anyone's birth data sitting on a server. Here is what that came to.

The privacy part was not a marketing decision. Your birth date, your birth time and your birth city are, together, unusually identifying, and there is no reason a brand should hold them. The calculation happens on your device and the page keeps nothing when you close it.

Why birth time changes the answer

Because the Moon moves about twelve to thirteen degrees a day, and the gate boundaries in this system are narrow. An hour of difference will usually leave your type alone. It can quite easily move your authority, and it moves your profile more often than people expect.

So the calculator asks for the minute, and means it. If your birth time is genuinely unknown, run it anyway and hold the authority and profile loosely, because type is the most stable part of an untimed chart. Your birth certificate, a hospital record, or your mother are the three places that time usually still exists.

What it gives you, and what it does not

It returns your type, your authority, your profile, your definition, your defined centres, and the channels and gates underneath them. That is the full mechanical chart, which is what you need to read any of the guides we have written.

What it does not give you is a reading. It will not tell you what your Gate 54 means for your marriage, and it will not sell you a report at the end. If you want the interpretation, that is what the writing is for, and it is all free too.

The honest note

The same note is on the tool itself, and it stays on everything we publish about this. Human Design is a contemplative framework, not a science. It has no peer-reviewed evidence base. The single formal study was funded by the system's founder, was never peer reviewed, and its researcher concluded the system as taught was flawed.

The claim that a 2015 Nobel Prize validated the system's neutrino theory is false. That prize went to Takaaki Kajita and Arthur McDonald for showing neutrinos have mass, and it said nothing about personality. We have written the whole question out in Is Human Design Real.

The astronomy in our calculator is accurate. What the astronomy is claimed to mean about you is a framework you are free to find useful or not. We are not going to blur those two things together to sell you a playsuit.

What to do with your result

Run the chart, then read in this order. How to read your chart, panel by panel covers the four panels that matter first. The piece on the cover

You can still run the chart, but treat authority and profile as provisional. The Moon moves roughly twelve to thirteen degrees a day, so an hour of uncertainty can move both. Type is the most stable part of an untimed chart.

Is Human Design scientifically proven?
