there is a document somewhere with your birth minute on it, and almost nobody who finds human design ever actually reads their own. they read someone else's summary of it.

To read your Human Design chart you need three pieces of information and four panels. The information: your birth date, your birth time to the minute, and the city you were born in. The panels, in this order: Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile. Generate the chart for free, read those four, and leave the rest of the bodygraph alone until you have.

What do you need to generate a free Human Design chart?

Your birth date, your birth time to the minute, and your birth city. Nothing else. The chart is calculated from where the planets sat at the moment you arrived, which is why the minute matters more than people expect. An hour of difference can move your Authority and your Profile, the two panels you will actually use.

Your birth time is usually on your birth certificate, in a hospital record, or in your mother's memory. Ask before you assume it is lost. Several sites generate the chart at no cost, and Jovian Archive, run by the original Human Design publisher, is the one most teachers point to. The chart is free. The written report is what they sell.

The four panels to read first, in order

This is the whole beginner sequence. Read top to bottom, then stop.

• Type. One of five: Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Reflector. It describes the energy you carry and how it lands on other people.
• Strategy. The one instruction attached to your Type. Wait to respond, inform before acting, wait for the invitation, wait a lunar cycle.
• Authority. Where your body registers a yes. This is the panel that changes your week.
• Profile. Two numbers with a dot between them: the role you play and the one you are pulled into.

Why is your Authority more useful than your Type?

Because Type tells you what kind of energy you carry, and Authority tells you how to make a decision, which is the thing you have to do today. Type is the better dinner party fact. Authority is what stops you signing something on a Tuesday you will regret by Friday.

There are seven, and they are not interchangeable. Some women decide in the gut, in the second, and the answer is gone if they think about it. Others cannot decide in the moment at all. What do the two numbers in your Profile mean?

The first number is the role you know yourself to be. The second is the role other people keep handing you. A 3/5 lives by trial and error and then gets treated as the one with the answer. The numbers run one to six, and the full set is in Human Design Profile Lines. If you read only Type and Authority, you still have most of the value.

Two charts in one house, and how differently they run

I am a designer and a Kundalini Yoga teacher, and I make clothing by hand in Bali. I was born on 28 August 1984 at 7:31 in the morning, which makes me an Emotional Manifesting Generator. My Authority is emotional clarity, and my blueprint is blunt about what that means: I am not designed to be spontaneous with a large decision. My decisions move through a wave, so I need to sleep on things and feel into them before anything is true.

The detail that changed how I work is the threshold. Clarity, for me, does not arrive as certainty. It arrives as calm, and the reading puts it at around eighty per cent rather than a hundred. If I feel exaggerated urgency, that pressure is my own mind or somebody else's, and it is not information. That one line rebuilt how we produce. Our pieces are made to order, and the lead time is not a delay, it is an Emotional Authority written into a business.

My husband Robindra was born on 10 January 1977 and runs on the opposite instruction. He is a Sacral Generator, and his Authority is his gut in the moment, a yes or no that arrives before language does. His emotional centre is undefined, so he picks up the feelings in a room rather than producing his own. Two charts, one house, one business, opposite rules for the same decision. He knows in a second. I know on Thursday. Neither of us is doing it wrong, which is most of what a chart is for.

What should you ignore on your first read?

Gates, channels, the incarnation cross, variables, colours and tones. All of it is there, and none of it is where a beginner starts. The centres are the sensible next step, written up in Defined and Undefined Centres.

One more thing, plainly. Human Design was assembled in 1987 and presented as received material. It has no peer reviewed evidence base, it has never been tested in a controlled study, and the widely repeated claim that a Nobel Prize validated it is false. The 2015 physics prize went to Takaaki Kajita and Arthur McDonald for neutrino oscillations, and had nothing to do with this system. Yes. Generating the chart costs nothing on the main sites, including Jovian Archive. What is sold is the written report and the private reading. The chart itself, with Type, Strategy, Authority and Profile printed at the side, is free, and those four are what a beginner needs.

Which parts of a Human Design chart should a beginner actually read first?

Type, Strategy, Authority and Profile, in that order, and nothing else on the first pass. Those four sit in the panel beside the bodygraph as plain words, not as part of the diagram. Starting with gates and channels instead is the reason most people close the tab and never come back.

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

You can still generate a chart, but treat it as provisional. Birth time most affects Authority and Profile, and an hour can move both. Type is more stable across a day, so it is the safest part of an untimed chart.

How long does it take to understand your own chart?

About twenty minutes to read, and roughly a season to recognise in yourself. The second part is the real work. You are watching for the moments your Authority was right and you overruled it, and those only show up in ordinary life.
