The colour that followed me to bed

there is a colour you keep returning to. you chose it for a playsuit, then a set, then one evening you noticed you wanted it in the room where you sleep.

The Bali Linen Pillowcase comes in four colourways, each dyed in its own botanical batch in Bali: Yin Yang, Rainbeau, Uluwatu Sunset and Golden Sunset. They carry the same colour stories as our most-loved linen sets, made by the same artisan hands, in 100% French linen stonewashed until soft. A single is $58 and a set of two is $108.

Why bring the colour of your clothes into your bedroom?

The colours that sell through first on our sets are never the loud ones. They are the ones women wear to feel like themselves. And it always struck me as a little strange that a day spent in a colour you love ends with taking it off and lying down on something that has nothing to do with you.

So we brought the dye pots home. Same linen we cut our garments from. Same botanical process. Same families. The pillowcase is the smallest thing we make, and in some ways the most intimate, because it is the last cloth you touch before sleep and the first one you feel when you wake.

Yin Yang: the quiet one

Deep and pale, held together in the same piece of linen. The stonewashing softens the contrast until it settles into something almost meditative, a conversation between two tones rather than an argument. It is the colourway for a calm room. White or natural sheets, dark wood, a single plant, not much else.

If you wear the Linen Yin Yang Suka Set or the Yin Yang Kundalini Playsuit, this is the one that belongs beside it. I wrote more about why balance, rather than any promised frequency, is what the colourway means to me in does linen have a frequency.

Rainbeau, Uluwatu Sunset and Golden Sunset

Rainbeau is our most beloved botanical colourway. Purples, pinks and golds move through the linen in their own arrangement, and no two pieces are ever the same. One Rainbeau case against plain linen sheets is enough colour for a whole room.

Uluwatu Sunset is terracotta and warm rose, the shade the clifftops turn at the exact moment the sun decides to stay. It loves clay, rattan and wood.

Golden Sunset is liquid turmeric and old gold, stonewashed until it looks like it has been part of the morning light in your room for years. Put it somewhere the sun reaches.

An honest note before you choose. Botanical dye does not reproduce exactly between runs, so your pillowcase will be complementary to your set rather than an identical match. Warmer in one place, deeper in another. We think that is better. It means the two pieces look like they found each other, not like they came off the same roll.

How each pillowcase is made

Every pillowcase is sewn by the artisan families who make our clothing, in their own homes and in small workshops the tailors own themselves. Never a factory. The linen is dyed in small batches with botanical colour, one colourway per run, and then stonewashed. That last step is what gives it the relaxed, lived-in softness, and it also settles the colour so it reads warm and intimate rather than bright and new.

when a run is gone, the next one carries its own colour story. that is not a flaw. that is the whole point of making something by hand.

It is sized to fit standard and queen pillows. Wash it cold and hang it to dry, and it will soften with every wash. Allow two to three weeks for it to reach you from Bali. If you want to know what linen actually does for your skin while you sleep, I went through it properly in are linen pillowcases good for your skin.

Frequently asked questions

What colours does The Bali Linen Pillowcase come in?

Four botanical colourways: Yin Yang, Rainbeau, Uluwatu Sunset and Golden Sunset. Each is dyed in its own small batch in Bali, and each is available as a single or a set of two.

Will my pillowcase match my linen set exactly?

It will be complementary, not identical. Botanical dye responds differently to every piece of linen and does not reproduce exactly between runs, so the tones will sit beautifully together without being a perfect match.

What size is the pillowcase and how long does it take to arrive?

It fits standard and queen pillows. Please allow two to three weeks from order, as each pillowcase is made in small batches and ships internationally from Bali.

With love from Bali,
Myrah
