What Made-to-Order Actually Means, and How to Plan Around It
Made-to-order means your garment does not exist when you buy it. It is cut and sewn after your order, by a named person, in a run that may never be repeated. That is why the wait is three to six weeks, why the piece can be made to your measurements, and why almost nobody else will own the same thing.
It is also why those pieces are final sale. A garment cut to your body cannot belong to anyone else.
Most of what is sold as fashion was made months ago, in quantities decided by a forecast, and is sitting in a warehouse waiting for someone. What we do is the other way round. Nothing is made until someone wants it, which removes the possibility of overproduction entirely and introduces a wait instead. That trade is the whole model.
The three tiers, and how to tell which is which
Not everything we make works the same way, and the difference matters before you order.

What happens during those weeks
The wait is not administrative. Something is happening in it.
- The cloth is prepared. Our linen is stonewashed before cutting, so the fabric has already relaxed and the fit you receive is the fit it keeps.
- Botanical colourways go into the dye for five to seven days before a single seam is sewn. No two runs come out identical, which is the point rather than the caveat.
- One person cuts and sews your piece, in their own home or in a small workshop they own, at a pace they set. Not a line, and not a shift.
- The run is reviewed before it leaves Bali. At this batch size a flaw is caught by the person who made it, not sampled at one in a thousand.
- Then it travels from Bali to you.
Can I have something made to my measurements?
On selected styles, yes, and it is a smaller thing to ask for than most people assume. Since the garment is being cut after your order anyway, cutting it to your numbers rather than to the standard block is often a modest change rather than a special project.

Custom pieces may take a little longer than the standard three to six weeks. We will tell you how much longer before you commit, not after.
If you are buying for a date
This is the most common way a made-to-order purchase goes wrong, and it is entirely avoidable.
If you need a piece for a specific occasion, email us before you order. Tell us the date. We will tell you honestly whether it can be done, and if it cannot we will say so rather than take the order and hope. A wedding in Mallorca or a birthday in Tulum is not a thing to leave to a shipping estimate.
As a rule: contact us first if the event is inside eight weeks.
Why some pieces cannot come back
Made-to-order and custom-sized pieces are final sale, and we would rather explain that than bury it in a policy page.
There is no warehouse. There is no rail of spares. A piece cut to your measurements fits one person, and a made-to-order garment was brought into existence because you asked for it. Sending it back would not return it to stock, because there is no stock for it to return to.
What we do instead is answer questions properly beforehand. Send us your measurements. Ask about the fabric weight. Ask whether the colour photographs true. We would far rather spend ten minutes with you before you order than have a piece travel back across the world.

How do I make sure a piece arrives before an event?
Email us before you order and tell us the date. If your event is within eight weeks, do this rather than relying on the standard estimate. We will tell you honestly whether it can be made and shipped in time, including when the answer is no.
Why are made-to-order pieces final sale?
Because the garment was brought into existence for your order and, in the case of custom sizing, cut to your body. There is no warehouse for it to return to and no stock for it to rejoin. This is why we would rather answer sizing and fabric questions in detail before you buy.
What does limited edition mean here?
Runs of five or ten pieces, not five hundred. Often botanically dyed or hand-finished, which means no two are identical even within the run. When a limited edition is gone it does not return, and we do not reissue it later in a different colourway and call it the same thing.
