New Moon and Full Moon Dates: Every Date and Exact Time to 2028

New Moon and Full Moon Dates

The short answer. The next new moon is 11 September 2026 at 03:26 UTC, in Virgo. The next full moon is 26 September 2026 at 16:48 UTC, in Aries.

Every new moon and full moon through to the end of 2027 is in the table below, with the exact time and the sign it falls in. All times are given in UTC, and the section on time zones explains why your calendar app may show a different day.

We keep this page current rather than writing a new post each month, so the dates here are always the live ones and not a snapshot of a cycle that has already closed.

Myrah teaches a live Kundalini Yoga class on every one of these dates, which is the reason we started keeping the table in the first place.

Times are computed from a standard astronomical ephemeris and cross-checked against published tables. Where another source differs from ours by a minute, that is rounding, not disagreement. Where it differs by a day, read the next section.

Why your calendar says a different day

If you have checked three sites and found three answers, you are not going mad. Almost all of the disagreement is a single day, and almost all of it is time zones.

A new moon or a full moon is a moment, not a day. It is the instant the Sun and Moon reach a particular angular relationship, and that instant happens everywhere on Earth at once. What changes is what the clock on your wall says when it does.

“A full moon is a moment, not a day. Everything else is what your clock happened to say.”

Take the new moon of 9 December 2026 at 00:51 UTC. That same instant is 7:51 in the evening on 8 December on the US East Coast, and 4:51 in the afternoon on 8 December on the West Coast. An American calendar prints the 8th. A British one prints the 9th. Both are correct. They are describing one moment from two places.

This matters more than it sounds if you are planning a practice or a ceremony around a phase. Convert the exact time to where you actually are rather than trusting any site's calendar date, including this one.

A rough conversion, for the common zones

From UTC Adjustment
New York Subtract 5 hours in winter, 4 in summer
Los Angeles Subtract 8 hours in winter, 7 in summer
London Same in winter, add 1 hour in summer
Central Europe Add 1 hour in winter, 2 in summer
Bali Add 8 hours, all year
Sydney Add 10 hours, 11 during daylight saving

Two things worth marking in this stretch

August 2027 has two new moons. One on the 2nd and one on the 31st. A second new moon in a single calendar month is sometimes called a black moon, and it is the quieter sibling of the blue moon. It happens roughly every two and a half years.

There is no blue moon before 2028 in this table. No calendar month between now and the end of 2027 holds two full moons. If a site tells you otherwise, check which time zone it is using, because a blue moon can exist in one zone and not in another. That is not a trick. It is the same moment landing on different sides of midnight.

What the two phases are actually for

The distinction is simpler than most writing about it suggests, and it holds up whether or not you have any interest in astrology.

New Moon Full Moon
What is happening Sun and Moon in the same place in the sky. No moon visible. Sun and Moon opposite each other. Fully lit.
The quality of it Dark, quiet, inward. Nothing to see yet. Bright, exposed, culminating. Everything visible.
Traditionally used for Setting an intention, starting, planting Releasing, completing, seeing clearly what is there
How it tends to feel Low energy, better for rest and planning High energy, vivid dreams, broken sleep for many people

The sign the moon is in colours the flavour of each one. A full moon in Scorpio does not feel like a full moon in Gemini, and anyone who has taught through a few years of them will tell you the room is different.

Practising with the cycle

Myrah teaches a live Kundalini Yoga class on every new moon and full moon in the table above, timed to the phase and calibrated to the sign it falls in. Mantra, pranayam, kriya and meditation. The energetic flavour changes each cycle. The technology stays the same.

No previous Kundalini experience is needed. The mantras and breath patterns are introduced each class, and if you have never chanted in Gurmukhi or Sanskrit you are welcome to listen the first time and join when it lands. Classes are live, and every one includes replay access for a week afterwards, so a difficult time zone is not a reason to miss it.

Class times and booking are here.

You need very little at home. A mat, a cushion or folded blanket for seated work, water, clothing you can move and breathe in, and a quiet room if you can find one. On the clothing, natural fibre matters more than most people expect, because breath work raises body temperature quickly and synthetic fabric holds that heat against you. Loose linen or cotton, nothing tight at the waist or ribs.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next new moon?

11 September 2026 at 03:26 UTC, in Virgo. That is the evening of 10 September on the US East and West Coasts. Every subsequent new moon through to the end of 2027 is listed in the table above.

When is the next full moon?

26 September 2026 at 16:48 UTC, in Aries. Full moons follow roughly every 29.5 days, and every one to the end of 2027 is listed above with its exact time and sign.

Why do different websites give different moon phase dates?

Time zones, almost always. A new moon or full moon is a single instant that happens everywhere at once, so when that instant falls near midnight UTC it lands on one calendar date in Europe and the previous one in the Americas. Both are right. Convert the exact UTC time to your own location rather than trusting any site's printed date.

What is the difference between a new moon and a full moon?

At a new moon the Sun and Moon occupy the same position in the sky and no moon is visible. At a full moon they sit opposite each other and the face turned toward us is fully lit. New moons are traditionally used for setting intentions and beginning; full moons for releasing, completing and seeing clearly.

How often do new and full moons happen?

Each phase repeats roughly every 29.5 days, so there are usually twelve or thirteen of each in a calendar year. When a single calendar month holds two full moons, the second is called a blue moon; two new moons in one month makes a black moon. August 2027 has two new moons.

Is there a blue moon in 2027?

No. No calendar month between September 2026 and the end of 2027 contains two full moons. August 2027 does contain two new moons, on the 2nd and the 31st, which is sometimes called a black moon.

What sign is the moon in right now?

The table above gives the sign for each new moon and full moon. The Moon moves through all twelve signs roughly every 27 days, spending about two and a half days in each, so between the phases listed here it will have moved on.

What should I wear to practise on a new or full moon?

Something loose in a natural fibre that you can breathe fully in. Breath work raises body temperature faster than most people expect, and synthetic fabric traps that heat against the skin rather than releasing it. Nothing tight at the waist or across the ribs.

Why we keep this page

Because the alternative is what most sites do, which is publish a new post for every moon and leave the old ones up, so that the internet fills with pages confidently announcing a cycle that closed two years ago.

One page. Kept current. That seems more useful.
