The Woman Behind the Brand: How Myrah Penaloza Began in Bali

January 1st, 2026. Before the Bhairavi-Lingam, where Shakti meets Shiva, where Her temple became our vow.

Mayra and Robindra renewed their vows on their twelfth anniversary. Their fourth wedding. The planet as witness. The ocean as blessing. Husband and wife, Shakti and Shiva, in this life and beyond.

This is where the brand lives. Not in a factory or a trend report or a marketing strategy. In the specific life of a specific woman who arrived in Bali with a practice and a vision and a partner who would build whatever structure was needed to make the vision real, and who has been refining both ever since.

Who Mayra Is

Mayra Penaloza was born in Santa Ana, California, on August 28, 1984. Virgo Sun. Virgo Rising. Virgo Mercury. A Virgo stellium that shapes the entire design intelligence of the brand. The refining instinct. The attention to what is extra and the willingness to remove it until what remains is honest and complete.

She grew up Mexican in California, understanding from early on that identity is not singular, that the self you carry is woven from multiple inheritances. She found Kundalini yoga in her twenties and it changed the relationship between her inner and outer life. The practice gave her a technology for the nervous system, and a way of thinking about clothing not as decoration but as part of the daily practice of embodiment.

How the Brand Began

Mayra and Robindra came to Bali pulled by something they couldn't fully articulate, staying because the island offered something they hadn't found anywhere else: a culture where ceremony is daily, where beauty is an act of respect rather than a performance, where the people who make things bring to their work the same devotion they bring to their altars.

The first pieces were made for Mayra herself. Things she could wear for her practice, for teaching, for the particular range of a day in Bali. She started with natural linen because nothing else felt right against skin that had been taught to pay attention to what it was wearing.

Other women asked where the pieces were from. Then asked if they could have one. Then asked if there were more. The brand began in that sequence, not as a business plan but as a response to a genuine need that Mayra had satisfied for herself and that turned out to be shared.

Who Robindra Is

Robindra was born in Vancouver on January 10, 1977. Capricorn Sun. Virgo Moon. Cancer Rising. The Architect to Mayra's Artisan. His Capricorn Sun is the structure and the discipline. His Virgo Moon is the attunement to her Virgo stellium. His Cancer Rising is the warmth the brand moves through the world with.

He handles operations and marketing. He builds the systems that allow Mayra's designs to reach the women who need them. Someone asked Mayra once how it is possible to work with your partner. She said she wouldn't have it any other way. From hosting festivals to now as digital nomads on a tropical island. Truly a dream come true and it's just beginning.

What They Are Building

One physical location in Bali, in Pererenan. Plans for one or two more on the island. Then Spain. But the expansion is not the point. The point is the thing they have already made: a community of women who recognize themselves in the pieces, who return not because they need more clothing but because the clothing carries something they want to stay close to.

Ten years of building slowly, honestly, without compromise, in the direction of something that can only be described by the women who have experienced it. You can read the full story on our about page and our slow fashion page.
