Feng Shui Haircut Calendar August 2026: Best and Worst Days to Cut Your Hair

If you are looking for a feng shui haircut calendar for August 2026, there is one thing you need to know before you book anything: the entire second half of the month falls inside Ghost Month.

That changes the answer. In most months the best days to cut your hair for growth sit in the waxing moon. In August 2026 that window opens on the 13th and closes on the 28th, and almost all of it falls inside the seventh Chinese lunar month, the stretch traditional feng shui asks you to leave quiet. Two systems pointing in opposite directions, in the same fortnight. Below is the calendar, the reasoning, and what I would actually do.

What a Feng Shui Haircut Calendar Is Actually Measuring

Most calendars online braid three traditions together without telling you which is which, so let me be transparent about the sources.

The first is the Chinese almanac, the Tong Shu, which marks each day of the lunar year as favoured or avoided for particular activities. That is where the language of auspicious days comes from.

The second is lunar phase. A waxing moon means growth and fast regrowth. A waning moon means slower regrowth, which is what you want when keeping a shape rather than chasing length. More on that cycle in our guide to how to care for your hair by moon phase.

The third is the moon's zodiac sign, which changes every two and a half days. Cancer, Pisces, Taurus and Virgo are favoured for hair. Aries, Gemini and Sagittarius are avoided. Scorpio sits in its own category.

The Ghost Month Problem: Why August 2026 Is Unusual

Chinese New Year fell on 17 February 2026, making that the first day of the first lunar month. Counting forward through each new moon puts the start of the seventh lunar month on 12 August 2026, running until 10 September.

The seventh lunar month is Ghost Month. The boundary between worlds is considered thin, and the guidance is to postpone anything that marks a beginning. Contracts. Moving house. Weddings. Surgery. And, for many families, cutting your hair, because a haircut is a small act of renewal. The Hungry Ghost Festival, the fifteenth day, lands on approximately 26 August 2026.

So the collision is this. The growth window runs 13 to 28 August. Ghost Month runs 12 August to 10 September. They overlap almost perfectly. If you observe Ghost Month, your growth window in August 2026 effectively does not exist, and your real opportunity is the first eleven days.

All times below are UTC. If you are several hours ahead or behind, check the boundary days against your own time zone.

10 and 11 August. The strongest days of the month. A waning crescent moon in Cancer, the most nourishing sign in this system, safely before Ghost Month opens. The best pairing for a cut that improves thickness and body rather than length. If you take one date from this calendar, take these two.

1 and 2 August. Best for a shaping trim. A waning gibbous moon in Pisces, a water sign associated with softness and moisture. The waning phase means regrowth comes back slowly, which is what you want when protecting a shape you like.

6 and 7 August. Best for strength. The Last Quarter falls at 02:21 on the 6th, with the moon in Taurus, the earth sign linked to density and resilience. A good window for cutting away split ends without losing length.

14 and 15 August. Best for growth, if you do not observe Ghost Month. A waxing crescent in Virgo, the sign most consistently tied to hair growth and scalp health. These would top the list in any other month. They sit inside Ghost Month, and only you can decide how much weight that carries.

16 and 17 August. A gentler alternative. A waxing moon in Libra, associated with shine and balance. Less potent than Virgo for growth, and the better choice for a colour appointment rather than a cut.

The Worst Days to Cut Your Hair in August 2026

12 August. Avoid entirely. Three difficult markers on one date. The New Moon at 17:36, the emptiest point of the cycle. A total solar eclipse in Leo. And the opening day of Ghost Month. We went into the reasoning separately in can you cut your hair during an eclipse.

26 August. The Hungry Ghost Festival. The fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, and the single most strongly avoided date in the Chinese year for anything resembling renewal. Book nothing.

3 to 5 August. Moon in Aries. A fire sign read as harsh and depleting for hair, waning on top of it. Unfavoured in every version of the system.

18 to 20 August. Moon in Scorpio. Intense and traditionally avoided for anything cosmetic. The First Quarter on the 20th at 02:46 does not soften it.

8 and 9 August. Moon in Gemini. Not harmful, simply unhelpful. An air sign associated with dryness and static.

Common Questions About Cutting Your Hair in August 2026

What is the best day to cut your hair in August 2026? The 10th and 11th. A waning crescent moon in Cancer, before Ghost Month opens on the 12th. For growth specifically, the 14th and 15th in Virgo are stronger, but they sit inside Ghost Month.

Can you cut your hair during Ghost Month? Traditionally no. The seventh lunar month, 12 August to 10 September 2026, is a period for postponing beginnings. Many families observe this strictly and many do not. If you do, cut before the 12th or wait until September.

Is it bad to cut your hair on an eclipse? Every tradition here says leave the day alone. The total solar eclipse falls on 12 August 2026, which is also a new moon and the first day of Ghost Month.

When is the next clear window? The second week of September 2026, when the eighth lunar month opens. Our lunar hair calendar for September 2026 has those dates.

How to Use This Calendar Without Letting It Run Your Life

The calendar is not a rule. It is a reason to pause.

Most of us cut our hair reactively, on the first free Saturday, in a mood, after a hard week. A feng shui haircut calendar interrupts that. It asks you to name what you want from the appointment, then wait a few days for the timing that matches. That gap between deciding and doing is where you find out whether you wanted a new haircut or a different life.

And if the only appointment you can get in August 2026 is the 19th, take the 19th. A cut on an unfavoured day with a stylist who understands your hair beats a cut on a perfect day with someone who does not. Timing is the refinement. It was never the foundation.

If you observe Ghost Month and your hair needs attention after the 12th, nourish rather than cut. Our scalp oil ritual for hair growth is built for exactly this holding pattern.

The moon does not know you have a wedding on the 22nd. Use the calendar where it serves you, and put it down where it does not.

With love from Bali,
Myrah.
