The Sound of the Store This Month
The Sound of the Store This Month
the store gets quiet by four in the afternoon, and that is when you can finally hear what has been playing underneath everything else all day.
What is on repeat this month
Every eclipse leaves something behind. Not just August 12, the total solar eclipse in Leo, which is already old news the way news becomes old within a day of arriving, but the after of it. The accelerated stretch that is still moving through all of us on the way to the lunar eclipse that closes it out on August 28. I made a playlist in the middle of that stretch. I did not plan to. I sat down one evening at the store after the last fitting left, and I pressed record on my own attention instead. Six songs kept finding their way back into rotation until I stopped pretending it was random and gave the list a name. Solar Leo Eclipse New Moon Manifestation.
It has been playing in Pererenan since. It is playing at home too, on the mornings I do not want to explain to anyone why I am moving slowly.
The six songs, in order
- Asatoma Sadgamaya, sung by Mooji Mala and Radha
- Linga Bhairavi Stuthi, by Sadhguru
- Tantric Har, by Simran and GuruPrem
- Sat Nam Wahe Guru (Blue Gap Meditation), by Hansu Jot and Za Rah Kumara
- Tershula Kriya, by Madhur Nain Webster
- Long Time Sun, by Snatam Kaur
You can listen to the whole thing on Spotify here, whether you are getting dressed, driving, or simply sitting with it.
Why a mantra, not a mood
I did not build this list the way you build a dinner party playlist, for flow, for a stranger's ear. Every track on it is a mantra or a kriya, most of them older than any genre that could hold them. Asatoma Sadgamaya asks to be led from the unreal to the real. Long Time Sun is the song we already close every Kundalini class with, the one that ends nearly every version of this practice I have ever known. Sat Nam Wahe Guru just says the thing directly. True identity. The wisdom that removes darkness. I did not choose these because they sound good over the store's sound system, though they do. I chose them because my own nervous system settles by the second track, every time, and I wanted the room to hold that same settling for whoever walked in still carrying her day with her.
What it is for, at home
Play it while you are getting dressed for something that matters, even when the something is just a Tuesday. Play it in the last ten minutes before you leave the house, the ten minutes that decide whether you walk out already tired or already arrived. Play it on August 28, when the lunar eclipse in Pisces closes what the Leo eclipse opened, as the sound underneath whatever small ceremony you build for yourself that night. It was never written to disappear into the room.
An honest note. I did not go to school for this. I choose these songs the same way I choose fabric, by whether my body settles when I hear the first ten seconds, not by what a playlist is supposed to sound like. Some months this list will be six songs. Some months it will be three. I will not pad it to look finished when it is not.
This is the first of what I hope becomes a monthly practice, sharing what is actually playing in the store and at home, and why. If you try it, tell me which track settles you fastest.
With love from Bali,
Myrah
