What to Wear to the Last Night of the Year
In this issue
the last night of the year is not a costume. it is a threshold.
A New Year’s Eve outfit should be one piece you can wear from dinner to midnight without adjusting it. Choose a long line in a fabric that moves, in linen or silk rather than anything that creases into the small hours, keep the neckline clear so one piece of jewellery can do the work, and wear shoes you can walk home in.
What follows is the whole decision, including the one piece of timing that quietly decides it for you.
01What should I wear on New Year’s Eve?
One piece, long, in a fabric with weight and movement. That is the shortest honest answer, and it holds whether the night is a crowded room or four people around a table. The reason is not fashion, it is arithmetic: a New Year’s Eve lasts five or six hours, longer than almost any other night you dress for, and every seam you have to think about gets thought about roughly forty times before midnight.
So the brief is subtraction. One garment instead of three. One fabric instead of a layered set that needs its own maintenance. One decision at the neckline, and then nothing else asking for your attention. I am a designer and a Kundalini Yoga teacher in Bali, and almost everything I have learned about dressing for long nights I learned from dressing for long practices: if a garment interrupts you once, it will interrupt you all night.
Everything below is drawn from our linen playsuits and jumpsuits, which is where the one-piece answer actually lives.
02When do I need to order for New Year’s Eve?
By 22 October, if the piece is made for you. Every garment we make is cut and sewn after you order it by one of the thirty Balinese artisan families who make our work, which is why the timing is real rather than a marketing device.
| Making | 3 to 6 weeks from order to shipment |
| Shipping | Then 5 to 15 business days with DHL |
| Last safe order date | 22 October 2026, for delivery by 24 December |
| Today | 18 October 2026, so four days remain |
| Free shipping | Worldwide on orders of $350 and over |
A piece that reaches you by 24 December reaches you for New Year’s Eve with a week to spare. After 22 October we will not tell you a made piece will arrive in December, because we cannot honestly promise it, and a garment that misses the night it was bought for is worse than no garment at all.
Is a jumpsuit a good New Year’s Eve outfit?
It is the best one, and for a reason most lists miss. A dress asks you to manage a hem all night, in a room where people stand, sit on low furniture and go outside at midnight. A one-piece with a wide leg gives you the same long line and takes the hem question away entirely. You get the drama of floor length and none of its admin.
It also solves the layer problem. Because the leg is wide and the fabric is light, a jacket or a wrap sits over a playsuit without the bulk it would add to a fitted dress. And linen, unlike most party fabrics, gets more comfortable as the night goes on rather than less.
If you are still weighing a one-piece against separates, we compared them honestly in linen pants, linen set or linen dress. For a dinner that is a date rather than a party, what to wear for date night is the closer guide.
04Four pieces, and the night each one is for
All four are made by hand in Bali, all four are in the playsuits collection, and every fabric and price below was checked today.
| Two Moons Kundalini · $358 | Harvest Moon and Moon Milk linen, pieced by hand. Wide leg, easy fall. For the loud, late, crowded kind of night. Pre-order, thirty in all. |
| Two Moons Vata · $388 | The same two linens in our more refined silhouette: new neckline, open back with a tie, side pockets, tapered leg. For the seated dinner that turns into dancing. Ten in all. |
| Sat Torri Uluwatu Sunset · $388 | 100% linen in a botanical dye that moves through soft pinks and deep indigos. Architectural and fluid. One size. For a warm-climate New Year. |
| Kuan Yin Silk, Turmeric Gold · $488 | 100% silk, botanically dyed in turmeric. The gold reads warmer in daylight and deeper by candle. One size. For the night that is also an occasion. |
Botanical dye varies between batches, so the piece you receive will be its own version of the colour rather than a copy of the photograph. That is the honest note on all of them.
05The Two Moons, and why we made them now
These two are the last new pieces of our year, and they were made for exactly this night. The yin yang on both is not printed. Every curve of it is cut from linen and sewn in by hand, Harvest Moon red into Moon Milk off white and back again, by the artisan families who have sewn the Kundalini Playsuit since the beginning. Piecing curves in linen is the slowest sewing we do.
Myrah on making them: “The brightness of these colours brings me so much joy. This was one of my favourite pieces to make this year. The sewing is so intricate, and truly, it is an evolution of the Kundalini Playsuit.”
Two honest notes before you choose. Because the yin yang is sewn into the body, the Two Moons Kundalini is not reversible like our original. And because every panel is placed by hand, the pattern falls a little differently on each one, so no two are the same.

06Shoes, jewellery, and the layer for after
Shoes first, because they decide the rest. If there is any walking at all, wear the flat sandal and thank yourself at one in the morning. A full-length leg forgives a flat shoe completely, which is the quiet advantage of a long one-piece over a short dress.
Jewellery only where the neckline left room, and one piece rather than two. The Two Moons Vata has an open back, so the argument there is for nothing at the throat and everything in the ear.
The layer for after is the thing almost everyone forgets. Midnight is outdoors in most of the world, and a coat that belongs to another outfit undoes the whole line. A jacket in a fabric that relates to the piece, or a simple wrap kept in one colour, is the answer.
Before you leave the house, stand still for one minute in what you are wearing and name one thing from this year you are finished carrying. Say it once, out loud if you can. Then go. Dressing is the oldest way humans have marked a threshold, and a threshold works better when you have said what you are crossing out of.
Everything here is in the full playsuits collection, cut and sewn in Bali.
Frequently asked questions
What should I wear on New Year’s Eve?
One long piece in a fabric with movement, such as a linen or silk playsuit, with a clear neckline and flat shoes you can walk home in. New Year’s Eve runs five or six hours, longer than almost any night you dress for, so the goal is fewer things to adjust rather than more things to look at.
Is a jumpsuit or playsuit appropriate for New Year’s Eve?
Yes, and it is usually the better choice over a dress. A wide-leg one-piece gives you the same full-length line without a hem to manage while standing, sitting and going outside at midnight. It also takes a layer more easily than a fitted dress, because the fabric is light and the leg carries the volume.
What colour should I wear on New Year’s Eve?
Whatever holds its shape under low light. Deep tones stay legible in a dim room and ask nothing of it, while warm off whites and reds read softer and show every line of the cut. Our Harvest Moon red and Moon Milk off white were chosen for this kind of light specifically, which is why the Two Moons pieces exist.
When is the last day to order a New Year’s Eve outfit?
22 October 2026 is the last safe order date for delivery by 24 December, which means it is also the last date we can promise a made-to-order piece will reach you for New Year’s Eve. Pieces take 3 to 6 weeks from order to shipment, then 5 to 15 business days with DHL, because each one is cut and sewn by an artisan family in Bali after you order.
What do I wear if New Year’s Eve is quiet and at home?
The same piece, with the shoes taken off. A long linen playsuit reads as dressed at a table of four and as comfortable on a sofa at half past eleven, which is the whole reason to choose one. A quiet New Year is not a lesser one, and it does not deserve a lesser garment.
The year does not end because a clock says so. It ends because you decide to put something down. Wear the thing that helps you do it.
With love from Bali,
Myrah
