The Lion's Roar in Your Hair, A Letter for Leo Season
Written from the porch in Pererenan, where the frangipani is dropping petals faster than I can sweep them.

It's Leo season, and Bali knows it. The afternoons have gone gold and long, the roosters crow louder, even the rice fields seem to be preening. I've been noticing how much this season asks of us — not to shrink, not to soften into the background, but to be seen. Fully. Unapologetically. Mane and all.
"You were not made to be quiet in a season built for roaring."
Every year around this time, I find myself thinking about hair differently. Not as something to manage or tame, but as something to let loose. Leo rules the crown, the scalp, the mane — the parts of us most associated with pride, vitality, and radiance. It's no accident that lions carry their power in their hair. This is the one season where growing it out, wearing it big, letting it catch the wind on the back of a scooter feels less like vanity and more like alignment.
The Sun in Leo, and the Mane You're Growing Into
The sun moved into Leo a few days ago and will hold court here until late August. Wherever Leo sits in your chart, that part of your life is getting a little brighter, a little louder, a little more insistent on being noticed. For a lot of us, that shows up literally in the hair — the urge to chop it all off, or to finally stop cutting it, or to dye it a color you've been too shy to try. Leo doesn't ask permission. It asks you to decide.
What Leo Asks of Us
Not perfection. Warmth. Leo is a fire sign, but it's a generous one — it wants you glowing, not burning out. This is a good season to ask yourself where you've been dimming your own shine to keep the peace, and to notice how much lighter you feel when you stop. I've been asking my clients this all week: where in your life are you performing smallness that nobody actually asked for?
A Ritual for the Roots
If you want a small, physical way to work with this energy, try this: on a night this week, sit in front of a mirror with warm coconut or castor oil warmed between your palms. Massage it slowly into your scalp — start at the temples, work back toward the crown. As you do, say (out loud, quietly, or just in your mind): I am allowed to be radiant. Leave the oil in overnight if you can bear it. Wash it out in the morning sun, if the sun is out where you are. This isn't about the hair growing faster, though it might. It's about remembering the crown is yours to wear.
The Moon Moving Through, Too
We're heading toward a New Moon in mid-August, which will land while the sun is still in Leo — a rare doubling of this fire energy. If you've been circling a decision about your hair, your image, or simply how loudly you're willing to take up space, that New Moon is a good marker to aim for. New beginnings started under a Leo new moon tend to have staying power, because they're rooted in genuine desire rather than obligation.
Something to Remember
You don't need the season's permission to be radiant — but it's a nice reminder anyway. Let your hair down this week, literally. Let it be big, let it be wild, let it be exactly as much as it wants to be. The lion doesn't apologize for its mane, and neither should you.
With love from Bali,
Myrah.
