On Grace, Ritual and "The Kundalini Gown" with Myrah Penaloza
What is your morning ritual to cultivate clarity and grace?
My morning ritual is simple. I wake up, slip on something that feels like ceremony, and fill up my kettle with spring water to heat, and sit with myself in preparation for my morning tea ceremony. Each bowl is a reflection of the many blessings I am being blessed with in that moment.
Who do you believe is your spirit animal?
I believe my spirit animal is the Swan. Years ago, when I worked at Lululemon in Santa Monica, a girlfriend gifted the whole staff their own personal Spirit Animal Totem and mine was the Swan. Ever since I first read the Ugly Duckling story, it had a huge impact in my life. This highlights the deceptive nature of first appearances and reminds us that true beauty grows from within. The Swan teaches me that we all have inner grace and beauty.
What is the true essence of the Kundalini Gown?
Grace and Radiance. Light and Vibrant. Years ago when I completed my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training I discovered that my weakest body was my Radiant Body and in order to awaken this body within me I needed to embody a graceful way of life. Becoming more elegant and mindful.
The collection was inspired by Kundalini Yoga lifestyle and bana, spiritual dress. These sacred garments are designed to be part of your morning rituals and sacred ceremony. From the moment you wake up you are the lighthouse and these garments are meant to enhance that state and quality.
When your style of dress is a reflection of your own commitment to your inner reality, it creates a subtle communication with other people.
The Kundalini Playsuit Linen carries this same intention today. Wide-leg, reversible, with the deep V-neck that allows the neckline to fall at the front or the back depending on how you choose to arrive. The original piece in the collection. The one that started everything.
Name one muse that continues to inspire you?
Frida Kahlo. She is my roots and my ultimate muse.
What is your daily ritual to stay connected and in the creative flow?
Kundalini Yoga. If I miss my sadhana for one day everything is shifted, I can feel it. I make sure to do Gyan Chakra Kriya for the full 11 minute meditation if and when I know I cannot do my full 2 hour sadhana.
What makes you feel Graceful and Victorious?
Right now, naked with my growing womb of magic. However I know that when my attitude is of gratitude and I am adorned in something made with intention I feel the most graceful and victorious, with or without my growing womb of magic.
How do you wish women to feel in your adornments?
Graceful. Luminous. Radiant. And Victorious.
What are your rituals in regards to the New Moon and Full Moon phases?
New Moon ritual is all about sister circles, unity and setting clear intentions for the next 30 days. Full Moon ritual is all about movement and celebration in community or in my living room followed with a long bath reflecting on my new moon intentions.
What is your current Mantra?
"Har singh nar singh neel naaraayan, Guroo sikh guroo singh har har gayan, Wha-hay guroo wha-hay guroo, har har dhiayan, Saakhat nindak dusht mathaayan."
This mantra is said to transform any bad luck into good luck. I actually play it in our home on repeat.
A Piece for This Threshold
Kundalini Playsuit Linen
Wide-leg, reversible, deep V-neck front and back, side pockets. 100% stonewashed linen that softens with every wash and holds its shape for years. Put it on before your sadhana. Keep it on for the rest of the day. The original piece in the collection, and still the one that changes everything when you put it on.
