The Perla Jacket

There is nothing to fasten.

The Perla Jacket is a front wrap jacket in light silk and cotton, hand stitched in Bali, in Perla White and Dark Moon Black. You fold one side over the other and tie it, and that is the entire mechanism. No buttons, no hooks, nothing to break and nothing to catch.

That is not a simplification. It is how tea clothing has always been cut, and the reason is practical rather than aesthetic. Cha Dao asks you to kneel, bow, lift, pour and reach across a low table, over and over, for longer than you expected to be sitting. A wrap gives you all of that movement and never once pulls against you. A fastened jacket fights every one of those motions.

So the shape came from the way of tea, and the detailing followed. Deep front panels that cross rather than meet. A tie that sits where your hands naturally fall. A line that reads composed whether you are standing in a doorway or folded on a floor cushion. 

Where it came from

It was drawn for a tea trip. Mayra was travelling to Taiwan with Global Tea Hut, and she needed something she could wear through a long ceremony without adjusting it, take off without ceremony of its own, and put back on with one movement. Everything here answers that.

The silk and the cotton keep it light. Silk carries the light, cotton keeps it honest and keeps it cool, so it works in a warm room and takes the edge off a cool one without ever becoming the reason you are warm.

It is hand stitched by the artisan families who have made for this house since the beginning, each of them paid a real living wage, never a factory garment. Silk and cotton, no synthetics.

The matching skirt

It was designed alongside the Perla Skirt, in the same silk cotton, with hand woven lace along the hem. Worn together they read as one piece and they are the reason both were drawn. Worn apart the jacket layers over almost anything, linen included.

Colorways

Perla White is the pearl, a white with warmth inside it rather than glare.

Dark Moon Black is the water it came out of. Worn over the Perla White skirt it becomes the most useful thing in your wardrobe.

Sizing

Available in S/M and M/L. A wrap is forgiving by nature, which is the other reason tea clothing is cut this way.

The honest note

Silk relaxes rather than creases. Keep it out of long direct sun, which is the one thing silk will not forgive. Cold hand wash or a gentle cycle in a mesh bag, hang to dry, do not wring. Made in small batches.

Common questions

How does it close?

You cross the front panels and tie. There are no buttons or hooks. It holds by the wrap itself, and how open or closed it sits is your decision each time you put it on.

Can I buy it with the skirt?

Yes. Choose Skirt + Jacket on the Perla Skirt page and both pieces arrive together in your size and colorway.

Will it work over my other pieces?

Yes. It was drawn to sit over the Perla Skirt, but a wrap in this weight layers over most of what you already have, including the linen. It is a good answer for an evening that turned cool.

How do I care for it?

Cold hand wash, or a gentle cycle in a mesh bag. Hang to dry out of direct sun. Do not wring it.

Everything we make is handmade in Bali by our artisan families, in small batches and to order. 

Whether your piece is waiting in the studio or cut for you after you order, it is finished, checked and packed by hand, so allow 3 to 6 weeks before dispatch, with botanically dyed pieces toward the longer end. 

Once your order leaves Bali, transit is 5 to 15 business days, and tracking reaches your inbox within 5 days of dispatch.

Shipping is free worldwide on orders of $350 USD and over. 

Below that, one flat rate by region: $14.99 to the United States. $15 to Canada, Mexico and Asia. $18 to Australia and New Zealand. $25 to the UK and Europe. $32 everywhere else. Free within Indonesia.

Duties and taxes are collected on arrival. Since August 2025, most US orders carry a DHL duty charge, and VAT or GST applies in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

If a piece arrives and the fit is not right, or it arrives damaged, you have 10 days from delivery to exchange it. We issue store credit rather than cash refunds, and the piece needs to come back unworn, unwashed, unaltered, with tags attached. Return shipping is yours unless the piece arrived damaged or incorrect.

Pieces customised for you (made to your measurements, in a custom colour or altered to your request) are final sale, because they were cut for you and cannot belong to anyone else. Sale items, anything bought with a discount code of 25% or more, and anything bought with store credit are also final sale. Made-to-order pieces in our standard sizes and colourways can be exchanged.

Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours of placing them.
