Slow, ethical and sustainable production
For every order you make, we give back to Bali
A young sunflower follows the sun all day, east to west. In the dark it turns back to face east and waits for morning. I wanted to make something that teaches a woman to do the same.
I came to Oshun through song and dance, while I was learning about my own ancestral connection to dance and to the energies of the goddess. She is the Orisha of sweet water, of rivers and honey and gold, the one who reminds a woman that her sweetness was never a weakness. Then I learned that the sunflower is one of hers, and something in me settled. The sunflower has always been my flower. I keep them in my house all the time. They make me so happy. They feel like a pluck of the sun, right there in front of you.
Oshun comes to us from the Yoruba people of West Africa. She was carried across the ocean into Cuba, Brazil and the Americas, and she is honoured in those homes and rivers today. I hold her name with the care it asks for.
The Altar to Oshun Suka Set is the most intricate Suka I have ever made. You feel it first in your shoulders. The top falls open and easy, the linen is cool against your skin, and the sunflowers sit exactly where the eye goes: along the shoulder, down each sleeve, at the mouth of every pocket. Suka carries the old Sanskrit word sukha, which means ease and joy. This is the most joyful version of it.
None of that placement is an accident. The sunflower print is our own, printed digitally onto 100% European Flax linen so every petal holds its line. The sleeves and pockets each carry their own arrangement of the print, so every panel is laid out and cut by hand, and the flowers land where they belong rather than wherever the fabric happens to fall. Each set is sewn by one of our artisan families here in Bali, in a workshop they own themselves.
We are making twenty. Not twenty to start. Twenty.
100% European Flax linen. Matching button-down top and wide-leg shorts. Available in S/M, M/L and XL. Machine wash cold, inside out, hang dry. Allow 3 to 6 weeks from order to shipment, then 5 to 15 business days with DHL. The first ten sets are already sewn, so if yours is one of them it may leave Bali sooner. Runs relaxed, see the sizing guide.
For the woman who is remembering that her sweetness is sacred, and is ready to wear it in the light.
Each set is cut by hand to place the print, so the sunflowers fall a little differently on every one. Yours is one of twenty, it will not be remade, and it is offered at one price to everyone.
Before you order
Will this set be made again?
No. We are making twenty, and when they are gone the print is retired. If your size is showing, it is still here.
Which size should I choose?
The Suka is one of the most forgiving shapes I make. It comes in S/M, M/L and XL, the top is relaxed and generous through the shoulder, and the shorts sit on a wide elastic waist. Most women between US 2 and 18 wear it comfortably. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger for an easy, falling fit, or the smaller if you like it closer to the body. The model is 5'6 and is wearing the S/M. For how to measure and how our linen sets fit, see the sizing guide.
How long will it take to arrive?
It leaves Bali 3 to 6 weeks after you order, then travels 5 to 15 business days with DHL, tracked. We write to you while it is being made, and you get tracking the day it ships.
How do I care for it?
Machine wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry out of harsh sun so the print stays bright. The linen is stonewashed before it reaches you, so it has already done most of its shrinking, and it softens with every wash after that.
Can I exchange it if the fit is not right?
Yes, as an exchange. You have 10 days from delivery to send it back unworn, unwashed and with its tags, and we issue store credit toward the piece that is right. We do not offer cash refunds. If you are unsure before ordering, write to support@myrahpenaloza.com with your bust, waist, hip and height and we will tell you honestly. Because there are only twenty, please write before you order rather than after.

Exchanges and Cancellations
If a piece arrives and the fit is not right, or it arrives damaged, you have 10 days from delivery to exchange it. We issue store credit rather than cash refunds, and the piece needs to come back unworn, unwashed, unaltered, with tags attached. Return shipping is yours unless the piece arrived damaged or incorrect.
Pieces customised for you (made to your measurements, in a custom colour or altered to your request) are final sale, because they were cut for you and cannot belong to anyone else. Sale items, anything bought with a discount code of 25% or more, and anything bought with store credit are also final sale. Made-to-order pieces in our standard sizes and colourways can be exchanged.
Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours of placing them.
Not sure of your size? Write to us before you order at support@myrahpenaloza.com. Five minutes now saves a piece travelling back to Bali or to our returns warehouse in the US.
