Before You Order

What to Know Before You Order

Everything we would tell you if you were standing in the studio, asking.

The short version: your piece is made by hand after you order it, so it takes three to six weeks. Sizing is one-size-fits-most, built for US 2 to 16. Botanical colorways vary between pieces. And because everything is made to order, we cannot take returns for change of mind. Please read on before you decide.

Your Piece Does Not Exist Yet

When your order comes through, one of our artisan families in Bali begins work. The fabric is cut, the seams sewn, the tie finished, by hand, for you specifically. There is no warehouse. There is no shelf of finished garments waiting for a buyer.

This is why the wait is three to six weeks rather than three to six days. We know that is longer than most brands promise. It is the honest cost of making things this way.

That is not a delay. That is devotion.

How the Sizing Actually Works

There are no XS to XL labels here. Our garments are designed one-size-fits-most, built to fit US sizes 2 to 16 comfortably, with many pieces extending well beyond that. What makes that possible is the cut, generous silhouettes, wrap ties, elasticated waists, and draping designed to move with a range of real bodies rather than one imagined one.

Petite women sometimes have gowns or playsuits lightly hemmed, an alteration any tailor can do in an afternoon. Tall women often find our lengths land where they have been looking for. Curvy and plus-size women are among our most loyal customers.

If you are unsure, email us your measurements and the piece you are considering before you order. We would rather spend ten minutes with you now than have something arrive that does not feel right. Full measurements are in the Sizing Guide.

Botanical Dye Means Variation

If you are ordering a botanically dyed piece, especially anything in Rainbeau, it will not be an exact match to the photograph. Plant dye is a living process. Water temperature shifts through the day, and the minute a piece enters the bath changes what the fibre takes up.

Some pieces arrive a little lighter, some a little deeper. That variation is what makes yours yours. You can read more about how Rainbeau is made if you want to understand the process before choosing it.

Linen Wrinkles. On Purpose.

Natural, untreated linen creases. That is what real linen does, and it is the reason it softens beautifully over years instead of pilling and dying in one season. Wash cold, hang or lay flat to dry, never tumble dry, and it will not shrink meaningfully. Skip those steps and it will.

The Honest Part About Returns

Because each piece is made by hand, to order, by a real person, we cannot offer refunds for change of mind or for fit. We would rather tell you that plainly now than have you find it in the small print later.

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or significantly different from what was described, write to support@myrahpenaloza.com within seven days with your order number and photos. Every situation is handled individually, by a person, not a policy.

Shipping, Duties, and Payment

Question Answer
Where do you ship? Worldwide, from Bali. Pieces have gone to women in more than forty countries.
Is shipping free? Free worldwide on orders over $500 USD. Below that, a flat regional rate is calculated at checkout.
Customs and duties? Set by your local customs authority, not by us. Most US orders fall below the de minimis threshold and incur nothing.
Can I pay in installments? Yes. Affirm and Sezzle are available at checkout.
When do I get tracking? When your piece is finished and dispatched, not at the moment of ordering.

Still Deciding

If you want to know more about who makes the clothing and why it is priced the way it is, start with this page, or read what customers have said in In Her Words. If you would rather see and touch a piece first, our boutique in Bali is here.

And if you have a question that is not answered anywhere on this site, just write to us. We read everything.
