Before You Order

What to Know Before You Order

Everything we would tell you if you were standing in the studio, asking.

The short version: your piece is made by hand after you order it. Production takes 14 to 28 days, and delivery takes a further 5 to 15 business days. Sizing is one-size-fits-most, built for US 2 to 16. Botanical colorways vary between pieces. Exchanges are welcome within 10 days of delivery and are issued as store credit. Please read on before you decide.

Your Piece Does Not Exist Yet

When your order comes through, one of our artisan families in Bali begins work. The fabric is cut, the seams sewn, the tie finished, by hand, for you specifically. There is no warehouse. There is no shelf of finished garments waiting for a buyer.

This is why the wait is weeks rather than days. Production takes 14 to 28 days. Once your piece is finished and dispatched, delivery takes a further 5 to 15 business days by DHL, depending on where you are and how quickly customs clears. Botanically dyed pieces need an additional 10 to 14 days in the dye before a seam is sewn. We know that is longer than most brands promise. It is the honest cost of making things this way.

That is not a delay. That is devotion.

How the Sizing Actually Works

There are no XS to XL labels here. Our garments are designed one-size-fits-most, built to fit US sizes 2 to 16 comfortably, with many pieces extending well beyond that. What makes that possible is the cut, generous silhouettes, wrap ties, elasticated waists, and draping designed to move with a range of real bodies rather than one imagined one.

Petite women sometimes have gowns or playsuits lightly hemmed, an alteration any tailor can do in an afternoon. Tall women often find our lengths land where they have been looking for. Curvy and plus-size women are among our most loyal customers.

If you are unsure, email us your measurements and the piece you are considering before you order. We would rather spend ten minutes with you now than have something arrive that does not feel right. Full measurements are in the Sizing Guide.

Botanical Dye Means Variation

If you are ordering a botanically dyed piece, especially anything in Rainbeau, it will not be an exact match to the photograph. Plant dye is a living process. Water temperature shifts through the day, and the minute a piece enters the bath changes what the fibre takes up.

Some pieces arrive a little lighter, some a little deeper. That variation is what makes yours yours. You can read more about how Rainbeau is made if you want to understand the process before choosing it.

Linen Wrinkles. On Purpose.

Natural, untreated linen creases. That is what real linen does, and it is the reason it softens beautifully over years instead of pilling and dying in one season. Wash cold, hang or lay flat to dry, never tumble dry, and it will not shrink meaningfully. Skip those steps and it will.

The Honest Part About Exchanges

Because each piece is made by hand, to order, by a real person, we cannot offer cash refunds. What we do offer is store credit, and we would rather tell you that plainly now than have you find it in the small print later.

Exchanges are welcome within 10 days of delivery, for a sizing issue or for anything that arrives damaged, as long as the piece comes back unworn, unwashed, unaltered and with its original tags attached. All exchanges and returns are issued as store credit. Size exchanges are the most common reason women write to us and we handle them warmly.

Custom and made-to-order pieces, sale items, items bought with store credit and previously exchanged items are final sale. Orders can be changed or cancelled within 24 hours of being placed. Return shipping is yours unless the piece arrived damaged or incorrect, in which case we cover it.

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or significantly different from what was described, write to support@myrahpenaloza.com within 10 days of delivery with your order number and photos. Every situation is handled individually, by a person, not a policy. Full terms are on our Exchanges page.

Shipping, Duties, and Payment

Question Answer
Where do you ship? Worldwide, from Bali. Pieces have gone to women in more than forty countries.
Is shipping free? Free worldwide on orders over $350 USD. Below that: free within Indonesia, $9.99 to the United States, $15 to Canada, Mexico and Asia, $18 to Australia and New Zealand, $25 to the United Kingdom and Europe, and $32 to the rest of the world.
Customs and duties? Set by your local customs authority, not by us, and paid directly to DHL on delivery. Checked and correct as of September 2026: the US $800 de minimis exemption was suspended in August 2025 and remains suspended, so expect a DHL charge on most US orders. VAT applies in the UK and EU, GST in Australia and New Zealand. See our Shipping page.
Can I pay in installments? Yes. Affirm and Sezzle are available at checkout.
When do I get tracking? When your piece is finished and dispatched, not at the moment of ordering. Tracking is emailed within 5 days of dispatch.
