On Grace, Ritual and "The Kundalini Gown" with Myrah Penaloza
What is your morning ritual to cultivate clarity and grace (self care must do’s)?
My morning ritual is simple… I wake up, slip on my Luminous playsuit and fill up my kettle with some spring water to heat,
and sit with myself in preparation for my morning tea ceremony.
Each bowl is a reflection of the many blessings I am being blessed with in that moment.
Who do you believe is your spirit animal and why? (optional)
I believe my spirit animal is the Swan.
Years ago, when I worked at Lululemon in Santa Monica, there was a girlfriend at the time who gifted the whole staff their own
personal Spirit Animal Totem and mine was the Swan. Ever since I first read the “Ugly Duckling” story, it had a huge impact in my life.
The Ugly Duckling is a widely known children's story, about an apparently ugly little duckling, who doesn’t look like the others and is rejected and labelled a misfit, different. In the end all are surprised when he grows into being the most elegant of birds, the Swan. I strongly feel a connection to the Swan, with getting into to much detail about my past. This highlights the deceptive nature of first appearances and also reminds us that true beauty grows from within. The Swan teaches me that we all have inner grace and beauty, and it teaches me self-esteem. As I begin to realize my own true beauty, I can begin to reveal in the ability to bridge new realms and new powers.
What is the true essence of “The Kundalini Gown”?
Grace and Radiance. Light and Vibrant. Years ago when I completed my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training I discovered that my weakest 10 body was my Radiant Body and in order to awaken this body within me I needed to embody a graceful way of life. Becoming more elegant and mindful. The Kundalini Gown was inspired by Kundalini Yoga lifeStyle and bana (spiritual dress), (please note, Inspired "By" not ideally "fore")
"Elegant, white dress makes you visible to people. It gives you impact and projection. The only way you can connect to someone so that they can remember you is if you impact them with your projection. Dressing in white can expand your projection and your energy, much, much more than when you dress like everyone else. When your style of dress is a reflection of your own commitment to your inner reality, it creates a subtle communication with other people."
And inspired by the principles of SATTVA Yoga. These sacred garments are designed to be apart of your morning rituals and sacred ceremony. From the moment you wake up you are the lighthouse and these garments are meant to enhance that state and quality.
Name one muse that continues to inspire you?
Frida Kahlo, She is my roots and my ultimate muse.
What is your daily ritual to stay connected and in the creative flow?
Kundalini Yoga. If I miss my sadhana for one day everything is shifted, I can feel it. I make sure to do Gyan Chakra Kriya for the full 11 min
meditation if and when I know I can not do my full 2 hour sadhana.
What makes you feel Graceful and Victorious?
Right now naked with my growing womb of magic. However I know that when my attitude is of gratitude and I am adorn in the Kundalini Gown I feel the most graceful and victorious with or without my growing womb of magic.
How do you wish women to feel in your adornments?
Graceful. Luminous. Radiant. And Victorious.
What are your rituals in regards to the New Moon and Full Moon phases?
New Moon ritual is all about sister circles, unity and setting clear intentions for the next 30 days.
Full Moon ritual is all about movement and celebration in community or in my living room followed with a long bath reflecting on my new moon intentions.
What is your current Mantra, Prayer or Affirmation that you pull up for support? (when you feel lack, depleted or low)
"Har singh nar singh neel naaraayan,
Guroo sikh guroo singh har har gayan,
Wha-hay guroo wha-hay guroo, har har dhiayan,
Saakhat nindak dusht mathaayan.”
This mantra and or prayer is said to transform any bad luck into good luck. I actually play it in our home on repeat :)
What are you really excited about for 2017 and what were you grateful for in 2016?
I am truly grateful for all the travel and gatherings AND the expansive growing sisterhood on a global scale, hosting La Luna Social around the world. I am grateful for my latest collaboration with Sylvia Soo Leather, the White Collection (available here) . I am Grateful for our Bloom festival this month, having all the community in Edmonton gather for a weekend of self discovery and inquiry. AND for the growing little life within me, making me soften and trusting in patience.
For 2017, I am excited to slow down and embrace this new life that awaits. Growing collaborations, the launch of La Luna Mama and so much more. Couldn't be more excited.
